Have Passport, Will Travel!
Tis’ the season for looking ahead and making those summer travel plans. For many, that includes either updating their current passport, or applying for a new one. Passport photos can be tricky; most guidelines are strict and very persnickety. For example, the standard U.S. passport photo is 2×2; the Canadian one is 2×2-3/4 and must have the studio name, address and date either written or stamped on the back. Most are shot on a plain white background, and NO country seems to want you to look happy when you cross the border—“neutral” expression only! Here at Thomas Bruce Studio in St. Petersburg, FL, we do passport photos for all countries. And we’ve had a run of them—particularly Canadian ones—in the last few weeks. Not sure why that is, but we’re happy to accommodate! Several AAA offices around the county send all of their international passport clients to us, as well as the Canadian help desk and UPS stores of St. Petersburg. Our success rate is 99.9%– occasionally you do get that one agent that rejects a photo for unknown reasons; probably a slow day at the bureau. There is nothing glamorous about a passport photo; Ann Landers used to say “anyone who looks like their passport photo is too sick to travel”. And that’s why I always tell our clients, “come back and let me do something nice for you! This is really not the best example of our award-winning portraiture!” But it gets them over the border. ~ Carol
